News from the Ecsite-uk Office: Christmas greetings

It's been a real pleasure seeing this mailing list grow through the year, so Christmas greetings include a "thank you" to Ecsite members and supporters alike, and very best wishes for a successful, rewarding 2003.

Developments in the sector: Visions of Science

If you are looking for an exhibition that combines science and art through inspiring photography, then the Visions of Science exhibition will suit your venue. The 19 images on display offer a chance to see both the beauty of science and its diversity in our lives. Subjects as varied as medicine, botany, physics and conceptual science are covered in the images. Each image comes with an explanatory caption and comments from TV presenter Adam Hart-Davis, who is a judge of the competition. There is no charge for the exhibition. Costs of installing and removing it are negotiated on an individual basis. If you would like more information please contact Victoria Lush victoria@vlush.free-online.co.uk

Visions of Science are national photographic awards, now in their fourth year. They are organised by Novartis, the healthcare company with support from The Daily Telegraph and the Science Photo Library.

Based in Washington DC and serving members on 5 continents, ASTC publishes a bimonthly journal (Dimensions) and other books, reports, directories that include bestseller resources for the science-centre/museum field. Personal favourites include:

You don't need to be an ASTC member to shop on-line, but a member discount does apply. Peruse the catalogue, print a PDF copy, then mail or FAX your order form. www.astc.org/pubs

News From The Regions: Senior appointments at Glasgow Science Centre

After an uncomfortable hiatus, GSC has a new CEO and a new Director of Exhibits and Programmes. Brian Weddell is the newly appointed Chief Executive. Formerly chief executive of Firepower, the Royal Artillery Museum in Woolwich, Weddell also has senior experience at the Earth Centre Doncaster.

Appointed end September, Grant Slinn now heads GCS' Exhibits and Programmes. His career spans positions at the Ontario Science Centre, Toronto, Arizona Science Centre in Phoenix, and he was most recently Director of Exhibits and Engineering at Science World in Vancouver "Welcome" both - we look forward to great things after the Christmas fun and polar bears!

Diary Dates: November 27-29th Ecsite 2003 conference

Following the record attendance at Ecsite2002 in London (540 delegates from 300 institutions and 35 countries) the annual conference in Munich will again offer practical workshops on professional challenges, as well as headline-grabbing strategy sessions on major policy issues, and Insight Tours of the Deutsches Museum which celebrates its centenary in 2003.

The capital of Bavaria is where cute folk traditions meet with BMWs, haute cuisine and high-minded sophisticates. Fairy-tale Gothic, brimful of biergartens, Munich offers a staggering array of art museums to tempt you away from the Deutsches Museum's splendid island site.

Put the November dates in your diary, and check the Ecsite website for information from the New Year.
