Panel Presentation: Improve accessibility and become more welcoming to a wider audience!!!!
Over the past four years the Life Science Centre and North East Autism Society have been working in partnership to give the autistic community a voice and through doing so have increased accessibility within the centre. Don’t take our word for it. Zoe a 13-year-old autistic child, will tell you if the community has a respected voice. Through sharing inspirational practices, this session will bring this award-winning partnership to life, enabling you to see communities through a new lens. David will be joined by Kerrie Highcock, Family Development Manager at North East Autism Society, Zoe King an advocate and speaker on autism, and Zoe's mother Nic King, an educator, trainer and writer on autism.
Biography
Hi, I'm David Jones and I have been Life’s Community Liaison Manager for nearly 5 years. I've been working closely with a variety of communities including the autistic, deaf, and African communities, seeking to improve accessibility for all. Our partnership work supporting the autistic community, received a Mariano Gago award at the Ecsite Conference 2022. I am an Advocate within the Diversi group which seeks to address equality, diversity, and inclusion issues across Europe's science sector, and beyond. Prior to working at Life, I worked deep within communities having managed housing estates, anti-social behaviour and homeless teams, and the last 10 years saw me working in tenant participation and community development.
