Workshop: How to decarbonise your science centre (the session your grandchildren want you to go to)
The urgent need for rapid, deep and radical decarbonisation as a species is clear. Operating in the space between science and the society it is essential that science centres decarbonise, and as the price of energy and goods sky-rocket there are lasting savings to be made. This session will explain HOW to decarbonise, helping you to understand the tools and terminology, measure your greenhouse gas emissions, set a carbon reduction target, and meet that target through decarbonisation projects. The session will feature external experts in carbon management, case studies from the network, and introduce the new ASDC Decarbonisation Group. Whether you are entirely new to this subject, well on your way to carbon net zero, or anywhere in between, this is the session for you. This session will be run jointly with Chris Dunford, We The Curious.
Discussion Table: Decarbonising your organisation: difficult but essential
As a sector we must respond to the science and demonstrate ambitious decarbonisation in our organisations, whilst sharing the journey with others. This discussion will delve into the strategic, technical and reputational challenges of decarbonisation. Supported by carbon management experts we will explore the barriers and best practice for organisational change, answer questions on the difficulties of measuring and reporting on your carbon, and share top-tips and failures for carbon reduction. We will also debate the benefits and risks of sharing your decarbonisation work with partners and the public. All perspectives and levels of knowledge are welcome. This will also be a chance to find out if the new ASDC Decarbonisation Group can help your organisation.
Biography
Roddy has been working on the organisation’s carbon footprint and decarbonisation strategy for Carbon Net Zero by 2030 along with the Head of Sustainable Futures, Chris Dunford. As We The Curious’ Sustainability Analyst, his main focus is on operational sustainability and carbon data which can be challenging when working in such a niche sector. However, we all have a greater chance at achieving rapid, deep decarbonisation if we share our knowledge, challenges and experiences so feel free to get in contact or join the ASDC Decarbonisation Group for more info.
