ASDC is organising regular online meetings across the next two years to bring together space and astronomy public engagement colleagues to explore the latest space news and share ideas on engaging audiences on the most relevant space topics. These community calls are open to all space engagement practitioners, so please share the details with your networks.
Join us for the third Space Community Call on 17th July at the slightly later time of 1pm-2.30pm.
This call focuses on the Moon, including sharing hands-on engagement ideas and demonstrations from across the network, hearing from NASA about the science and rising excitement of the Artemis programme, and looking ahead to International Observe the Moon night, which takes place on 14th September this year.
The Artemis programme is a Moon exploration programme, which aims to re-establish a human presence on the Moon for the first time since Apollo 17 in 1972. The program's stated long-term goal is to establish a permanent base on the Moon to facilitate human missions to Mars. We will be hearing all about the plans, objectives and different stages of the programme from a member of NASA's space flight team.
We are excited to welcome expert speakers who will share their insights and updates, followed by Q&A to give you the opportunity to tap into their wealth of knowledge and uncover those new and exciting 'best bits' that engage your audiences.
As part of this session there is also the opportunity to share engaging space demos relating to the topics covered and to discuss upcoming events and initiatives relevant to our space engagement community in 2024.
Please register if you would like to attend and share with your colleagues. Registration will close 12pm 16th July.
Keynote Speakers
Staci Tiedeken, Outreach Coordinator, NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center
Staci Tiedeken is the Outreach Coordinator for the Solar System Exploration Division at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center. She is also the International Partnerships Coordinator for International Observe the Moon Night, an annual worldwide event that celebrates the Moon. Staci loves to incite wonder in others through public engagement activities; being an information link between the world of planetary science and the public is something she is incredibly passionate about. Staci is also a truffle-making aficionado and loves airports and traveling.
Dr Jacob Richardson, Deputy Lead of Applied Lunar Science Group, NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center
Dr. Jacob Richardson is a planetary geologist and the Deputy Lead of the Applied Lunar Science Group at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center. Dr. Richardson’s fifteen years of scientific research has focused on exploring volcanoes on Earth and throughout the solar system with geophysical methods, orbital data, and boots.
In addition we will have live demos and resources being shared from:
- National Space Centre
- Royal Observatory Greenwich
- ESERSO UK, STEM Learning
- Explorer dome
