Closing deadline for applications 28th May 2024
We are looking to engage an artist to plan and facilitate one or two one-day interactive workshop(s) with a group of six young people aged between 16-18, based on the 'Our World from Space' project.
The artist will help the group to experiment with using art to communicate scientific ideas and support them in considering how art can help science become more accessible and engaging. The aim of the workshop(s) is to inspire young people to create a playful activity for families that will form part of the museum’s public Family Programme in the autumn. The workshop(s) could take any format and use any medium which can be used safely in the museum space (the OUMNH stonework is vulnerable to damage, so certain materials cannot be used in the museum’s main building to protect and conserve the architecture).
The successful artist will have experience working creatively with young people in an education, museum, youth or community setting.
About the participants:
The young people who will be participating in the workshop will be on a three-week placement (5th- 23rd August) with the museum as part of the 'Natural Science and Heritage Scheme'; a targeted youth programme which provides local young people from diverse backgrounds with the opportunity to find out about the museum and its Public Engagement activities.
