The Royal Society, London
Deadline: 28th January
Salary: £48,000
The Royal Society is the national academy of science in the UK. The Society’s purpose is to recognise, promote and support excellence in science, wherever and by whomever it is done.
The Royal Society is committed to promoting diversity in UK science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and medicine (STEMM) by seeking to increase participation from underrepresented groups. Individuals from lower socio-economic backgrounds, certain ethnic minorities, women, and disabled people are all currently under-represented in UK education, training and employment related to STEMM. A lack of diversity across the scientific community represents a large loss of potential talent.
The post holder will manage the successful delivery of the Society’s diversity programme including leading projects and activities under the diversity strategy. They will be responsible for writing diversity policies and procedures, and advising colleagues across the Society including the education, grants and policy teams on diversity best practice to ensure that diversity is embedded across all the activities of the Society. This is an important role within the Society and the post holder will need to have a proven track record of delivering equality and diversity activities in complex organisations. The post holder will need experience of working across different stakeholder groups and be able to command the confidence of the Society’s Fellows, committee members and partners. The post holder will also need to demonstrate a track record of successful project management and delivery.
The post holder will chair the Diversity Working Group within the Society, which brings together representatives from all teams to ensure that diversity and inclusion are considered across the Society’s work. The Society is a member of and provides the secretariat for the Athena Forum and STEM-Disability Advisory Committee.
