Situated within a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Royal Museums Greenwich (RMG) is a collection of diverse historical sites. The sites are the National Maritime Museum, Cutty Sark, the Royal Observatory, and the Queen’s House. We are a place to explore the sea, space, art and history, and our new strategy ‘Charting Our Course’ puts our people at the core of its success. Opportunities for community consultation and co-curation are central to our approach, ensuring the presence of multiple perspectives, the development of under-represented audiences and sustainable approaches for inclusion in the museum.
We are looking for a creative thinker who can take complex scientific ideas and break them down for our visitors in an accessible and engaging way. A particular focus for this role will be developing content to be used onsite and online as part of the ‘First Light’ project, through which RMG will commemorate the 350th anniversary of the Royal Observatory.
You will need to demonstrate an extensive knowledge of astronomy and space science, experience of interpretation planning for a wide range of audiences in a science centre, museum or heritage context, and an understanding of accommodating different learning styles in order to communicate effectively.
Key elements of your role will include working collaboratively with colleagues across the Museum to research, develop and evaluate displays. You will take a lead role in exhibition interpretation using a wide variety of techniques, champion audience needs, new project research and innovative design processes.
This is a full time, permanent role in Band 5 - Middle Management and Technical Specialists. Core hours of work will be 36 per week, 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday, with an additional hour to be worked as agreed upon with the line manager.
In return we offer a culture encouraging inclusion and diversity, pension, 22 days annual leave (rising to 25 after 1 year), training and development, an environment with flexible working options as well as many more.
